Orlando, FL
Walt Disney World / Epcot

--Divider--

Yesterday I made a slight detour, and on a whim headed to Orlando and Walt Disney World. I had been to WDW, but maybe like 1980, before Epcot was built. Several people suggested I go there, so... There's a section dedicated to science and technology, but the park also include a large lake surrounded by pavilions for several countries. Here's the entrance to Mexico.

The Eiffel Tower in the distance. It's almost like being in Vegas... excuse me... Paris. I mentioned in previous days that summertime was off season in Florida and I got great deals on motels. Well... it's high season at WDW - the kids are out of school and their parents are taking them all here!!! I checked in to one of the resort hotels within the complex. It is a city in itself with it's own freeways linking the different sections of the park and the hotels. Los Angeles should have such a public transportation system!

Morroco. As soon as I checked in to my hotel about 5:00 yesterday it started to thunderstorm. Perfect. I was too late to go to the park, and since I've been suffering serious movie withdrawal lately, I went to the Downtown Disney section and finally saw Matrix Reloaded. Woohoo!

Authentic Disney wildlife. This morning I got up early (for me anyway), skipped breakfast so I could be on the bus and at Epcot when it opened at 9:00. When I got there, the World Showcase part was closed and didn't open 'til 11:00. Some of the science / technology part was closed or having technical difficulty. All of the restaurants were closed and didn't open 'til 12:00. Arrrggh! But, ALL the Disney stores were open so you could spend the first few hours of your visit making sure you had all your "Mickey Gear!" Hmmmm... Is it just me...?

(Japan)...or do you actually PAY for over-priced hotel rooms and exhorbitant admission fees to go to an international-theme MALL? At 12:00 I went to the German section to get lunch. Then I had to put my name on a waiting list and when I finally got in, waited almost 30 minutes in a buffet line. By now I was beginning to get... a little irritated. But, after restoring fluids to my system and getting my blood sugar levels back to normal, I went to several different attractions and actually started to have fun.

China. OK. I had a really nice afternoon. I went to almost everything, including going back to the science / technology part and not having to wait in the long lines that had been there in the morning. I went to the Japan pavilion and had sushi for dinner, then The Lovin' Spoonful was (were?) giving a concert - I didn't realize so many 60's hits were by them! - then saw the amazing fireworks display. Afterwards, I got a bus right away to go back to the hotel. I was exhausted after walking and walking and walking all day.
